The Power of Disconnecting: Rediscovering Myself Beyond Social Media

Hey y’all!! If you’re here, you really resonate with my content and I’m so grateful to have you here! I’ve been eager to bring back blog culture too. Some say it’s still alive and I want to test this theory out now.

In today's hyper-connected world, social media can feel like a double-edged sword. While it offers connection and inspiration, it can also lead to overwhelm, comparison, and self-doubt. Recently, I found myself in need of a break—a chance to step back, breathe, and reconnect with my true self. In this blog, I’ll share why detaching from social media is crucial for mental clarity and how it has helped me rediscover my passion, validate my self-worth, and refocus on my creative endeavors.

The Need To Detach

Social media can be a whirlwind of information and emotions. Scrolling through feeds often leads to feelings of inadequacy as we compare our lives to carefully curated images of others. I realized that I was losing sight of my "why"—the passion that fueled my content creation and connection with others. Taking a break from social media provided me the space to reflect on my motivations and reconnect with my core values. Not to mention I was starting to feel addicted to my phone, addicted to likes, to comments and it was starting to distort the way I see and experience my life. It was getting harder and harder for me to remain present. Even when I am present and not creating content, there was a huge feeling in the back of mind that felt like I should be recording and that I should be creating content. Muscle memory is real!

Why We All Need To Take Breaks for Mental Clarity

Detaching from social media allowed me to clear my mental fog. I noticed that, without the constant influx of information and the pressure to perform, I was more present in my daily life. Breaks enable us to recharge, reflect, and gain perspective. I found that I could think more clearly, make decisions with intention, and approach my passions with renewed enthusiasm. Especially towards the end of the year where we start to reflect more, the seasonal blues may approach and the weather is getting colder - this is the time to prioritize our gut and mental health. Speaking of! I am hosting a Gut Health Wellness Workshop on Sunday, November 3rd at 12:00pm EST. Tickets are limited so grab yours ASAP!

Rediscovering My ‘Why’
With social media on pause, I spent time rediscovering what truly ignites my passion. I engaged in activities that brought me joy—reading, journaling, and spending time in nature. This period of introspection helped me identify what I genuinely want to share with my audience and why it matters to me. Rediscovering my "why" reignited my passion for content creation and reminded me of the importance of authenticity in my work. At the end of September I finished 75 HARD, the holistic version and although my body was in the best shape it’s ever been in — my mind felt completely shattered. It felt amazing showing up for myself every day but at the same time I was consistently showing everyone else that i was showing up every single day. In the end, it was extremely draining for me and was causing me to disconnect from myself. It started to feel like it was less about being and more about doing and I just didn’t like that feeling.

Self Validation and Self-Acceptance
In the absence of likes and comments, I learned to validate myself. I began to embrace my unique journey without the constant need for external approval. I focused on self-acceptance and acknowledged my progress, no matter how small. This shift in mindset empowered me to be more authentic and true to myself, both online and offline. I’m excited to see who I become uninterrupted? It’s important for us to think about that. Without the comments, without anyone’s opinions or expectations, without anyone’s input — Who are you uninterrupted? What will you get done on your spare time? What ultimately fulfills you? What drives you? What feels the most beautiful to you? How much more intentional would you be with your time? With your energy? With your body? With your attention? With your love?
