5 sunday rituals to calm your gut.
your gut is exhausted with keeping up with your lifestyle.
sundays have always felt like an invitation. a gentle reset before the world speeds back up. the emails, the errands, the endless lists can wait. your body can’t. if you’ve been feeling bloated, fatigued, or anxious lately, this is your reminder that your gut feels everything you ignore. sometimes your gut isn’t angry with you, it’s just overwhelmed. and one of the most powerful ways to regulate your digestion and your nervous system is by how you care for yourself on the slowest day of the week.
most people don’t realize how exhausting their daily habits are for their gut. skipping breakfast because you’re “not hungry yet.” drinking coffee before water. eating lunch in front of a screen while replying to emails. grabbing something fast between calls. rushing through dinner. sleeping late, waking up tired, doing it all over again. we move so fast that our body never gets the signal: it’s safe to rest, to digest, to breathe. when your nervous system is in constant fight-or-flight, your digestion follows meaning you may feel tight, sluggish, overworked.
so instead of chasing productivity this sunday, opt for rhythm. try nourishment. try tending to your gut with small rituals that bring warmth, calm, and balance back into your body.
start your morning warm.
before your jumping on your phone, before coffee, start to give your gut a moment to wake up softly. warm lemon water or ginger tea first thing in the morning helps stimulate stomach acid, awaken digestion, and flush out toxins. (also diluted ACV shot works here too). all of these options are warmth signals to your body that it’s safe to start moving again after rest. cold drinks shock your system, while warm liquids soothe it.
build grounding meals.
our gut thrives on both rhythm and repetition, not restriction. build your meals around grounding foods: roasted sweet potatoes, carrots, or beets. add fiber and healthy fats like black beans, avocado, and olive oil to help stabilize blood sugar and reduce inflammation. root vegetables literally grow in the ground. they remind your body how to root itself, too. (how fire is nature for that!)
hydrate differently.
hydration isn’t just about water. it’s soups, stews, teas, and broths. these warm, mineral-rich fluids hydrate your cells and your gut lining more deeply than cold water ever could. a cup of bone broth before bed supports your gut lining repair and helps with digestion overnight. think of it as a warm hug for your insides.
comfort your nervous system through your food choices.
what you eat affects how you feel emotionally, too. warm oats with cinnamon, flaxseed, and stewed pears calm both digestion and mood. chia pudding with pumpkin purée and honey gives your body prebiotics and your mind comfort. meals like this signal to your nervous system: you can relax here. and that’s always the goal.
create a night-time ritual that feels like love.
end your sunday with stillness. turn off screens, dim the lights, sip something warm, and reflect. what helps me with the screen time before bed is to place my phone on the other side of the bed and to invest into a real alarm clock. write down three things that went right this week. it doesn’t have to be a big or grandiose win, just moments of peace. of joy. of gratitude. this reflection practice lowers cortisol and helps your digestion finish strong before rest. the calmer your body is before bed, the better your gut repairs overnight.
small shifts like these change how your body feels by monday morning. you don’t need a massive detox to feel better. you just need rhythm. the more you repeat these tiny, intentional acts, the more your gut learns safety
